Current interests

The general objective of my research is to study the relationship of marine phytoplankton with the light environment. This relationship is established mainly through pigments that in marine photosynthetic organisms appear as part of groups with a great variety of molecular structures (photosynthetic systems).

We intend to characterize the chlorophyll and carotenoid molecules that make up the pigment systems and relate the synthesis and / or interconversion between pigments with processes that involve the action of light (photo-uptake, photo-protection, photo-acclimatization, photo-adaptation).

We also intend to establish their distribution in the different taxonomic categories of microalgae and cyanobacteria and to investigate the distribution of populations of planktonic organisms in natural waters by developing and applying pigmentary analysis methods.
